Some sites quote the exchange price as the headline and some do not. Always ask, "Is this price with or without my old battery?"

The cost-per-month math

A battery's warranty has two parts: free replacement, when a failed battery is swapped at no cost, and pro-rata, when you pay part of a new battery's price. The free months are the real protection. Here is each battery's price divided by its free months, both with and without an exchange. Adwin's rows show its own price list (effective 1 June 2026, GST included). Two things stand out. First, the cheapest battery at the counter, the Amaron Black, is the most expensive per month of free cover, because it has only 18 free months. Second, the spread among the 30 to 42 free-month batteries is small, about ₹93 to ₹115 a month with exchange, or ₹118 to ₹145 without. Once a battery gives you at least 30 free months, buy on availability, freshness and the dealer's service record rather than chasing ₹200.

A worked example. Say your battery fails at month 34, which is common in a hot city with short trips. With the Amaron Black, free replacement ended at month 18, so at month 34 you are in the pro-rata period and pay part of a new battery's price. With any 36-free-month battery, you get a new one free. That single event is worth ₹3,000 to ₹4,000.

Wagon R car battery type

The Wagon R car battery type for petrol and CNG cars is a 12V maintenance-free flat-plate lead-acid battery in the Japanese 38B20L size: 38 is a performance rank, B is the width and height class, 20 is the case length in centimetres, and L means the positive terminal is on the left when the terminals face you. Smaller B19 batteries rated 32Ah to 33Ah, such as the Exide Eezy EY34B19L and Tata Green 36B19L, are also listed for the car and cost less, but they give a little less reserve.

If your Wagon R has idle start-stop, the type changes to EFB. EFB batteries are built for the repeated restarts that start-stop demands, and a normal flat-plate battery in that duty wears out early.

The 2022 idle start-stop catch

Maruti Suzuki's February 2022 press release for the updated Wagon R says the car came with "ISS in petrol variants" and describes the 1.2-litre engine "with ISS". Retail listings now include EFB batteries for the Wagon R: the Amaron EFB60B20L (40Ah, ₹4,299, 48 months) and the Exide MLM42 for ISS cars (38Ah, ₹5,099, 60 months), on TyresNMore. Which battery is used for Wagon R CNG car?

The factory S-CNG Wagon R uses the same 35Ah 38B20L size as the petrol car. Maruti's 2022 release lists S-CNG on the LXI and VXI trims with the 1.0-litre engine, and ISS is described for petrol variants, so a CNG car normally takes a standard flat-plate battery, not EFB. We found no battery maker listing a separate, larger battery for the factory CNG model. The one exception is an old aftermarket CNG kit: if a previous owner added extra electrical equipment, check the label of the battery the car is running now.

2. Read the manufacture code. A battery loses charge sitting on a shelf, and for at least one Exide range the warranty clock starts at manufacture if that is earlier than your purchase. 3. Read the warranty split on the label, not on the shop's board. The same Amaron Go model is listed with 60 months of total warranty on one site and 44 on another. The label on the battery in your hand is the only version that counts, so check that it shows the free months you paid for.

4. Match the label letters. For a Wagon R, that means 38B20L (or a B19 equivalent) with the positive terminal on the left, and EFB if your old battery was EFB. Why Wagon R batteries often fail in year three

The Wagon R is a city car, and city use is hard on batteries. Every start takes charge out, and a 10-minute drive in traffic with the AC and headlights on puts little back, because the alternator spends much of that time near idle. Over months, the battery sits partly charged, and lead-acid batteries that sit partly charged lose capacity faster. A car parked for a week or two between short trips is the worst case.
